Happy New Year!

We meet 2017 with resolve to get involved: in our communities, in our government, and especially with animals!
Last month, Friends of SFACC got involved with new partners who have an awesome spirit of giving. Estelle Choe, who adopted Tippy (now Apollo) from ACC, started an Etsy store and donated some of her handmade bandanas for the ACC shelter dogs to wear for the holidays. Remy Savin threw a birthday party for her dog Walter (shown with his gifts) and asked guests to bring items from the ACC wish list. Animal-loving employees from University of the Pacific Dental School and Under Armour coordinated donation drives for their colleagues.
The Friends of SFACC year-end holiday appeal raised over $40K for the animals, a terrific increase over last year! We’re optimistic that the shelter is increasing in visibility; one of Friends’ gifts to the shelter in 2016 was to launch the new ACC website, www.sfanimalcare.org.
ACC is moving in a positive direction, especially with the vote by SF supervisors to fund a new facility (and on Giving Tuesday no less). A special thank-you to SF Supervisor Katy Tang, who introduced new legislation last month that bans the sale in SF of domestic cats and dogs not obtained from rescue organizations and also those under eight weeks old (it passed!). Supervisor Tang is also beloved by ACC for hosting the 12 Days of Kittens in her office over the holidays, promoting adoption and ACC specifically.
Let’s resolve to make an even greater difference in the lives of SF animals this year. To your list of NY resolutions, find out how you can get involved at ACC. Opt to adopt or sign up to volunteer. Dog walkers, cat laps, and small animal pals needed are always needed! You can play fetch, cuddle, read to or hand out treats to the shelter animals. They love any attention and you’ll help keep them happy until they find their forever homes.

Thank you to everyone who stands with ACC and helps the shelter do the work that made it one of SFWeekly’s top local organizations deserving public support.

Meows, Purrs, and Thank You!
