Volunteer at the ACC shelter

SFACC needs volunteers to do all kinds of things from walking dogs and socializing cats, to helping socialize small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits, folding laundry, sorting toys, and helping with outreach events. The shelter is located at 1200 15th Street (at Harrison), San Francisco, near bus lines and within walking distance of the Van Ness BART station.

If you’re interested in volunteering at the shelter, you must be at least 18 years old.  Parents/guardians may volunteer with children 12–17 years old if the parent/child team attends all orientations and classes together, stays together during volunteer service and agrees to volunteer for the minimum volunteer commitment of two hours a week for six months.

Volunteers seeking to fulfill a community service requirement through a court deferment, school requirement or counselor recommendation must first be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator. Call (415) 554-9427 or e-mail acc.volunteer@sfgov.org.

The first step to becoming an ACC volunteer is to attend a New Volunteer Orientation session. These sessions are held twice a month and require preregistration by phone. Click here to see the volunteer orientation dates. Call (415)  (415) 554-9414 to sign up. If you have a specific question about volunteering, email acc.volunteer@sfgov.org or visit the ACC website.
