December 2022

Our 2022 in review: SFACC had 1,227 adoptions, including 814 cat adoptions, 204 dog adoptions and 209 small animal adoptions. Thank you to all our adopters for giving these animals forever homes!

November 2022

In November SFACC adopted out 107 animals (18 dogs, 70 cats, and 19 other species). In addition, 225 animals were transferred to adoption/rescue partners (63 dogs, 115 cats, and 47 other species). Thank you to everyone involved in giving these animals a second chance!

Big Momma has come a long way since she arrived at our shelter at the beginning of August, very scared and very overweight. She’s discovered her inner lap rabbit and lost some weight, now able to move around and explore more easily. Today she’s had the best change of all: she found her forever home.

Wee house panther Boo was the last of his litter at the shelter. It turns out he was waiting for the perfect four people to find him! Mission accomplished: Boo has gone home!

In one weekend, four bonded pairs of kittens were adopted, including Dr. Doolittle and Mary Poppins, seen here with their new family. 

Adoption update! Lovely Luna (fka Diva) was adopted in July. She’s doing great and loves being by the window in her cat hammock.

Min Pin cutie Carmine is adopted and on his way home with his new mom and her granddaughter!

Cutie pie Dickens has gone home, just in time to enjoy the holiday weekend! Happy tails sweetie!

Tripod Princess has come a long way since arriving at the shelter with a serious injury. She’s had her leg amputated, recovered, and gotten lots of love from volunteers and staff. And now she’s been adopted! We can’t wait to hear updates!

A wonderful adoption! Pepe the chihuahua’s person passed away a couple of weeks ago. A friend, John, stepped up to care for his beloved dog. John says that he’s always loved Pepe but now he loves him even more! Pepe has a whole village that helps with food, meds, and whatever Pepe needs!

We love this! Quinley and Sullivan sold lemonade to raise money to donate $100.00 to the cats at ACC on behalf of their cat at home named Linus. Thank you so much!

August 2022

In August, SFACC had 143 adoptions (98 cats, 20 dogs, 25 other species). In addition, the shelter transferred 317 animals to adoption partners (98 cats, 20 dogs, 25 other species). Thank you to everyone involved in giving these animals a second chance!

After waiting patiently at the shelter for 8 months, Legend’s person found him and he’s now in his forever home. Thank you to all volunteers and staff who helped this boy stay engaged!

Goofy Lab in a fluffy husky body Ohlone went home.

Walter has sauntered out of the building, but not before striking a pose or two with his new mom, one of our transport volunteers.

Beautiful mama Joy went home and we already have an update! Joy is now named Cheri Joy and is so loved!

Adoption update! Diva was adopted last month and is loving her forever home: “She loves taking naps and lying on her pink blanket.

Pretty girl Bernie was adopted in February. “She’s doing great and I love her. Thank you for everything!” Thank you for giving her such a loving home!

Adoption update! Scrumptious pup Mr. Baby Boy was adopted last month and we have an update: “Mr Baby Boy now goes by Tugboat aka Tuggie. He is loving life with his big brother Louie.”

Can you guess the breed? Pascal (fka Chunk) was adopted from us last month and his adopters already did a DNA test. We were right in our main breed guess, but there are some surprises in the mix!

Yesterday a family adopted 3 rabbits: Bonded pair Snowdrop and Pepper and longtime shelter resident Ophelia! They have a big new house and yard with plenty of room for new rabbit friends.

Miss Gigi has been adopted.

Adoption update! Last week puppy boy Odin wowed us with his bow tie wearing skills, and this week he’s in his forever home! “Odin is doing great! He already sits on command and he loves the backyard…the cats are already sleeping on the bed with him …thanks so much for all you do!” Thank you for adopting!

Hooray! It’s our first ever kitten & pigeon adoption! When the adopter decided to come adopt a kitten, they saw we had a singleton pigeon available and decided to add the bird to their aviary!

Bonded pair Silver & Onyx went home together!

Nana Bo Bana (now Hana) is doing fabulously with her two kitten sisters and getting an unlimited supply of tummy rubs and love.

Senior sweetie Spike has gone home! He was adopted last month but came back when it became clear he wanted to be a solo cat.

“Last month was the 2-year anniversary of Cookie joining my life and I wanted to say thank you again for making this possible. She is such a joy to be around, she really blossomed into an adorable, confident and very affectionate little girl, such a difference from the first day when she was so underweight and scared.

Thank you for everything that you do every day for the animals that go through the shelter, and for allowing happy stories like ours to happen.”

March 2022

In March, 2022, SFACC adopted out 54 animals: 13 dogs, 30 cats, 11 other species. Transfers to partner organization totaled 162 animals: 83 dogs, 22 cats, and 57 other species.

Sweet Pumpkin Pie has been adopted after a long stay at SFACC and she quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite. We’re so happy for her and her new family! Her new name is Dolly Parton, perfect for this social darling.

And just like that…all the kittens have been adopted! Here’s tuxie cutie Shailee with her happy new family!

Update: Beautiful Quinn was adopted last month and is loving her forever home! “She loves all her human and fur family members” and her chi brother Saffron is “warming up to her complete sweetness.” And she’s shown a singing talent, like her new mom.

Sweet little Sprite was adopted last week and already came by for a visit! Her new name is Juniper.

Fluffy beauty Jessye was adopted last month and we already have an update! “Jessye is living her best cat life and is doing typical cat things, like sitting on my laptop. She’s the love and light of my life, and the best furry companion.”

Cashmere was adopted a year ago and we just heard from her happy adopters: “She is one of the sweetest hamsters I’ve ever known (and I’ve known many throughout my childhood and now my kids’ childhoods)! She is definitely an escape artist, so we have to keep very close tabs on her, but she has never bitten anyone, and is super fun to have around. Here are a few photos so you can see her living her happy hamster life.”

August 2021

August surpassed July in adoption numbers, with 218 adoptions: 22 dogs, 170 cats (meow!), and 26 other species (guinea pigs, rabbits, and birds). The shelter staff transferred an additional 61 dogs, 95 cats, and 140 other species to partner organizations.

Our longest term dog resident Ivy has found her forever home! Happy tails sweetie!

An update from kitten Buck’s adopter: “I wanted to let you know how things have been for Buck as he has settled into my home! He very quickly explored my apartment and after a couple of days, has developed a strong relationship with my current cat Willoughby. They’re now playing together a lot and Willoughby has taken on big-brother duties and regularly licks and cleans Buck (who I have renamed Percy).”

Pretty Kitty with her new family, who are giving her a perfect new name: Patches. An update from her adopters: “Thank you everyone! Patches had a good transition for her first night and getting to smell all the new smells in our neighborhood. Her tail is up in the air and she is a happy puppy. Our son is giving her so much love and she is filling his heart.”

Gorgeous boy Bentley just went home last week and we already have an update! “Just wanted to send some pictures of Bentley over and say thank you so much for everything!!! 4 days together and he has absolutely changed our lives. He is the best behaved, most loving, happy little pup ever. We still can’t wrap our heads around how perfect he is. Thank you for posting him to your social media page which led us to him. Thank you to all the SF animal care and control workers and volunteers who took him in and cared for him along with every other gentle soul they meet. Countless lives have been saved and changed for the better through your compassion. We are forever grateful!”

We just heard from the lucky family who adopted rattie pair Walt Jr. & Flynt: “We love our new members of the family. They are wonderful. I would like to thank the people working at Animal Control and the Volunteers for the wonderful adoption experience.”

SFACC B&T Supervisor Katy Jones drove big boy Draco to a foster in Oregon (through the BRAVE Rescue organization). Draco was a wonderful passenger and BRAVE is a partner of SFACC that has done a lot for our bullies!

I can’t leave out all the wonderful volunteers, thank you for being of service! We know how hard you all work for the city’s animals, thanks for all you do, you’re all appreciated! Also, BIG THANK YOU to Officer Pone (Stephanie) for safely rescuing him while he roamed the streets of San Francisco! His new name is Milton, and he’s a big lover! He loves sleeping, car rides, and everyone who crosses his path … he’s completely non-reactive to other dogs. Milton and our 15 yr old kitty Quincy are getting a long really well, he’s super respectful, and he’s also become fast friends with our tortoise Chester-Perkins!
