Growing up, my world was always filled with the boundless joy that rescue animals bring to a household. As constant companions, playmates, and dress-up partners, they were more than pets; they were cherished members of the family. As a young child, even my stuffed animals received personalized holiday gifts – a testament to my lifelong love for our animal companions!
My journey into animal advocacy took a significant turn when I adopted my first rescue dog from New York Animal Care & Control in 2013 – still with my husband and me here in San Francisco. This sweet pup who I named ‘Roux’ became more than a loyal companion; he opened my eyes to the incredible work that goes into running an open-access animal shelter and finding rescue partners, rehab placements, and homes for the many different animals that come through those shelters’ doors. My experience adopting my first dog as an independent adult fueled a deep passion in not just rescue but, specifically, in rescuing from municipal shelters. Ultimately, this led me to adopt again in 2022, this time from San Francisco Animal Care & Control. This latest addition, Andi (short for ‘Andouille’), brought a refreshing energy and goofy personality, transforming our household and enriching the life of our existing furry family member.
My commitment to my community extends beyond my love for animals. Previously a member of the Junior League of San Francisco, I played roles in communications and technology leadership, contributing to the vibrancy of the city I have called home for nearly a decade. Other board roles, such as my current position on the Board of Women in Public Finance Northern California, reflect my dedication to my professional community and the advancement of other women in my field. As a liaison in the Chapters Committee of the National Women in Public Finance organization, I connect with a diverse group of individuals from around the country to foster collaboration and share insights and initiatives.
My decision to join the Board of Friends was driven by a simple yet powerful motivation – a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of animals in San Francisco. Through Friends of SFACC, I found a community that shares this commitment, and together, are excited to work toward creating a compassionate environment for all animals.
